Ventnor is one of our favourite places on the Island. Definitely a Caledon recommendation for a day out: mooch round the Botanical Gardens, lunch in the cafe there, gorgeous chunky sarnies and lovely risotto. Kids loved the playground and feeding the fish. Walk along the coastal path to Ventnor beach with breathtaking sea views, passing through the idyllic Steephill Cove - a real gem of a place. Minghella ice cream on the esplanade and a paddle in the sea. One great day out, thank you sunshine :)

As a guest recently pointed out, a great way to get directly from Cowes to Newport is the cycle path, a flat 4 mile track that starts just up the road from The Caledon. It follows the old railway track and is really pretty in places looking out over the River Medina and completely avoids the traffic on the Newport Road. I often go for a run with our dog Charlie along here, but hadn’t really considered recommending it before now, so definitely one to bear in mind! Great for a walk, run, cycle as are all the other cycle paths that follow the old railway tracks on the Island. Have a look here http://www.cyclewight.org.uk/routes.html for inspiration!

Just how fab did our lovely Queen look yesterday? She came to see us in Cowes on what was the last day of her Jubilee tour. Cowes was absolutely buzzing, amazing weather and sooo many people turned up waving their flags, it was a fantastic day to be part of, definitely one to remember :)
